Operation Bus Stop

While meeting at Kuyper College, we began wondering what we could do where a lot of people gathered as an
act of kindness by the church; perhaps to those who are forgotten. That is when the Operation Bus Stop was born. Since
we were without a building, we could not hold a Fall Festival or Kids Alternative Party for Halloween. So, we went to
where the kids are on their way home from school. So many of the kids in Grand Rapids ride the city bus, we decided to
give away Halloween Treat Bags at The Rapid Station and the Greyhound Station in downtown Grand Rapids.
In 2006, 500 treat bags were prepared with about 25 bags with diabetics in mind (sugar free candy and carb counts for
each item in the bag.) About ten of the adults, youth and preschoolers went to pass these bags out to people
waiting for buses. People were surprised that we weren’t expecting anything in return. Everyone had a lot of fun!
In 2007, 1000 bags were prepared and handed out. Since then we began "Reverse Trick-or-Treating" in our church
neighborhood. Same principle, just a bit closer to our ministry field.
