Anchor Baptist Church

History tree

The church constituted in 1957 as Grand Rapids Immanuel Baptist Church. It was just a vision of a Southern Baptist Church in Grand Rapids that brought Arnold and Julia Quandee to the conviction to start a Bible Study in their home. It grew and changed locations a few times before the church built a building on 44th Street. That building was sold in 2005. The current facility was purchased and first services were held in the gym on January 14, 2007. As we began with a new location and a new name, we kept a piece of the history that has brought us to where we are today. This tree sits in our new building as a reminder of our path. Each rock has a date on it that corresponds to a significant change in the church. Framed documents of those dates and the list of Charter Members are posted on the wall nearby. A picture frame for each pastor is on the same wall.
